Brisbane fine-art photographer Lex Lucas presents Liminal Traces, an exhibition of 20 large-scale photographic works at Brisbane Square Library from 9 November to 13 December 2026.The exhibition explores movement, memory and the fleeting moments between stillness and motion. What makes the photography distinctive is the technique. While the images often appear to contain overlapping figures or ghostly traces, they are created through single exposures in the camera, using long exposure, intentional movement, fabric, light and shadow - rather than digital composites. The resulting photographs have a cinematic and sometimes surreal quality, inviting viewers to consider how time, emotion and human presence can coexist within a single image. Lex is a Meanjin/Brisbane-based photographer with a background in filmmaking and television production and holds the FAPS and AFIAP photographic distinctions.
